I'm starting to think I'll need to partially upgrade my rig if I'm going to play this game in any kind of style. Any techies have some recommendations for: new Motherboard, CPU, gfx card? I've got 4gigs of ram and two decent HDs (one external, one 120gig SATA drive).

Upgrade your GFX card to whatever you can. Everything else is secondary.

New infoz for the game! Sounds pretty nifty

Some things that I like:
  • Classes have the chance to change their damage type (slashing/piercing) to deal with difference types of mobs
  • There will be subclass abilities you can attach to your "main" (ie. archers being able to craft their own arrows in the field)
  • You can specialize in different element types - meaning mages/melee can make themselves individual... and with the conjurers (or was it the thaumaturge?) ability to negate elemental resistance, there hopefully won't be a "you're not an [x element] mage. You can't come" situation.
  • A LOT of strategy to even simple xp grinding fights - meaning lots of variety for various classes
  • The game is GORGEOUS

Something that makes me a little nervous, especially after they said they wanted the game to be more solo friendly, is that they anticipate parties being from 6-8 people. While I enjoy partying and I think one of the greatest strengths of FFXI was the community, created through the party system, I don't want to sit around waiting for 5-7 other people in order to do something. I'm hoping 6-8 people is only for higher end stuff and that there's enough stuff you can do with 3-4 people that we can avoid the hours of lfg in major cities.

some stuff i forgot to post earlier

more pictures showing races available
http://kotaku.com/5505529/the-10-tribes ... ark-elves/

Quote:
The human-looking Hyuran are split between the intelligent Midlanders and the burly Highlanders.

The catlike Miqo'te are made up of the nocturnal Keepers of the Moon and the day active Seekers of the Sun.

The elvish Elezen are divided as the more traditional Foresters and the dark-dwelling Shaders - that's right, Final Fantasy XIV has dark elves.

The hulking Roegadyn are represented by the Seewolf clan of sailors and the volcano-guarding Lohengarde.

Finally, fans of those cute little things can either play Plainsfolk or Dunefolk, both equally adorable.
